Enhanced TV (ETV) is video programming that has an interactive application bound to it and which executes concurrently with that program.

Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) is a multimedia content format primarily used  to define one or more multimedia pages (similar to web pages), specialized for use within an enhanced television or interactive television system.

A ETV EBIF user agent (analogous to a web browser for internet) resides on the set-top box, or any other computing environment and is capable of receiving, decoding, presenting(widgets), and processing (actions) an ETV Application. This component usually provides, along with its host hardware environment, one or more mechanisms for an end-user to navigate and interact with the multimedia content represented by ETV Applications.
