In line with Samsung’s commitment to spur development of new connected TV experiences, Samsung today announced the winner of its Free the TV Challenge 2011. This year, developers were challenged to create Converged Apps that allowed people to use more than one device to interact with the content on the TV.

itaas won the 2011 Challenge with its Party Shots app, an interactive app that allowed users to take pictures at parties and gatherings with their mobile devices and instantly push them to Samsung Smart TV. Photos may be turned into a slideshow in real time and users can also add captions and messages to personalize the content. Party Shots will also store the photos so that users can review and post them after the party on various photo-sharing sites.

“Because of the robust ecosystem that we have built, Samsung Apps has become the preferred launchpad for new apps and services. In fact, there are now more than 25,000 companies developing apps for our TVs, said Anderson. “As the number of TV apps and services continues to grow, Samsung will continue to lead the industry to broaden the type of apps available to deliver a superior, personalized entertainment experience.”

Party Shots and other Free the TV Challenge finalist apps will be available for viewing at Samsung’s booth #12004 in the Central Hall at the 2012 International CES, which will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 10-13, 2012. Apps may also be viewed at http://FreeTheTvChallenge.com.

CES-specific information may be found at www.samsungces.com.

Samsung honored itaas as having the most innovative application that brings together a mobile device and a Smart TV – thereby, “freeing the TV.”

The itaas application PartyShots allows consumers to take photographs on their mobile devices and immediately displays these “shots” on a Samsung Smart TV. A great way to add your own entertainment to any party or event. No more cardboard cameras on tables at a wedding reception!

If you are in Las Vegas, you can also stop by the Samsung booth tomorrow (Tuesday, January 10 – (Samsung Booth: #12004 Central Hall) to meet with Jim Elayan and to learn more about PartyShots.

This application relies on extensive knowledge of the connected TV development environment as well as the complex and ever evolving mobile device ecosystem. This diverse set of expertise along with our knowledge of the CATV and TV application requirements made itaas a perfect choice for an innovative consumer application.

“For the past 12 years, itaas has always focused on bringing technologies and platforms together to solve a customer’s problem,” said Jim Elayan, vice president, marketing for itaas. “Samsung’s challenged companies to find ways to “free” the TV – making it more than just a display for video. An interesting problem. An easy solution for itaas to provide. And, itaas has the capability to migrate this application to other advanced platforms including those used by cable operators.”

Verivue Joins itaas, RGB Networks and Verimatrix to Ease Deployment of Live Video Streaming to Multiple Screens

Wesford, MA: November 15, 2011 — Verivue, Inc. announced that it will join forces with video industry leaders itaas, RGB Networks and Verimatrix to deliver a fully integrated solution to network operators seeking to deploy a live multiscreen TV Everywhere service.

Verivue is offering its OneVantage content delivery solution, which when used in conjunction with RGB Networks’ multiscreen transcoding and packaging solution, with DRM from Verimatrix and mobile client application and services from itaas, provides Multiple System Operators (MSO) a fully integrated, best-of-breed solution for delivering both live and on-demand TV Everywhere services. Complementing the individual components from each vendor, itaas provides the skilled network architects, product integration teams and extensive system testing capabilities that allow MSOs to launch new multiscreen services in dramatically less time without the expense of developing custom solutions.

“We are delighted to round out our live streaming solution with the CDN capabilities of Verivue,” says Jim Elayan, vice president of marketing at itaas. “Their cutting edge approach to content delivery allows a fast and flexible solution for our customers.” “CDNs are a vital component of any TV Everywhere service and the addition of Verivue to our group enables us to offer one of the premier CDNs as part of our best-of-breed multiscreen solution,” said Ramin Farassat, RGB Networks’ vice president of marketing and business development. “RGB and our partners are committed to expanding our group to include vendors with other complementary solutions to ensure we can meet operators’ TV Everywhere needs today and tomorrow.”

“A proven partner ecosystem and technology platform provides a higher level of confidence for service providers who are enhancing their networks with a TV Everywhere approach. Based on our growing hybrid network experience, we are able to help operators navigate through the business and technology aspects of securing content and revenue,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix.

Consumers today expect to access high-quality video content on a myriad of devices, including smartphones, tablets, game consoles, broadband enabled TVs and Blu-ray players. Verivue helps cable MSOs navigate this new market opportunity with its OneVantage Content Delivery Solution. OneVantage utilizes caching technology to serve content from locations close to users, assuring a consistent, high quality video streaming experience across any screen. The solution incorporates all the components needed to build and operate a CDN network, including a request router for dynamic cache selection and a full management and analytics suite that gives both the operator and content owner detailed visibility to optimize the end user experience.

“The convenience of this integrated ecosystem helps lower cost and reduce the complexity of deploying video streaming to multiple screens,” said Jim Dolce, CEO of Verivue. “Verivue is committed to working with innovative companies like itaas, RGB Networks and Verimatrix for the benefit of our respective customers.” A demonstration can be seen at RGB’s booth—#342—at Cable-Tec Expo, November 15-17 in Atlanta.
The time is right – technologically and competitively – to deploy an adaptive streaming solution to serve the growing marketplace of IP-connected, video-capable devices. For the quickest solution, itaas, RGB Networks, Verimatrax and Verivue have joined forces to create a best-of-breed, live streaming video distribution solution. This is a technologically advanced, market-ready combination of vendors and technologies to help service providers leapfrog existing on-demand products from over-the-top providers with live and linear video offerings.

connXstream Architecture Demonstration

itaas serves as the ‘prime contractor’ contributing its skilled team of network architects, product integration know-how and extensive product testing capabilities as well as a client side solution for viewing content on a mobile device. At the outset of a project, itaas’ network architects will assess a service provider’s existing video delivery infrastructure and then work with the other three collaborators to design and implement a TV Everywhere solution that leverages the existing infrastructure and keeps costs and complexity to a minimum. The customer can leverage the itaas mobile application to view content or integrate it with an existing mobile solution.

RGB Networks provides its carrier-class Video Multiprocessing Gateway (VMG), a highly scalable transcoding platform delivering superior operational savings and benefits – as well as protocol adaptation with its TransAct Packager, which works in coordination with DRM and encryption from Verimatrix. RGB’s Packager supports the three main adaptive streaming formats – HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS), and Smooth Streaming.

Verimatrix‘s VCAS™ for Internet TV provides a complete digital TV security solution for over-the-top (OTT) services on networks implementing the HLS protocol, which includes important security extensions to support subscription and transaction-based revenue models. Verimatrix can also provide support for third-party DRM systems such as Verimatrix MultiRights™ for PlayReady DRM, which secures adaptive bitrate Smooth Streaming services to Microsoft PlayReady DRM-enabled clients and is supported by a single operator security headend.

Verivue‘s OneVantage provides a comprehensive CDN platform that accelerates and improves the delivery of diverse content and applications over an operator’s network. OneVantage CDN comprises of a suite of best-of-breed components for content publishing, high-performance distributed content caching, request routing, CDN management and analytics. For the TV Everywhere solution, the CDN components support a diverse set of technologies including the major HTTP adaptive streaming formats, Adobe RTMP and RTSP. OneVantage is a software-based solution that may be deployed on commodity off-the-shelf servers, and extensively leverages virtualization technologies to integrate these capabilities into a unified platform.

In October 2011, four leading technology companies created a solution that allows service providers to quickly and cost-effectively deploy a multiscreen TV Everywhere service, including streaming live video. The solution includes:

itaas, the system integrator and provider of an interactive client app for viewing content

RGB Networks, the leading provider of scalable multiscreen IP video delivery solutions

Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multiscreen digital TV services

Verivue, a cutting edge content delivery network provider in support of video streaming

With over 120 million Internet connected mobile devices deployed, demand for TV Everywhere is growing. Service providers of all sizes face the challenge of offering a multiscreen service quickly or risk losing viewers to fast-moving competitors. Together, these four technology leaders provide a way to deploy a reliable solution (connXstream) for video streaming that dramatically reduces the time, effort and cost to launch multiscreen services.
